PCI 6503 installation problem

When I boot up after installing my PCI-6503 card Windows XP wants to load drivers for two devices:  the PCI-6503 card and my existing PCI-GPIB (IEEE-488) card.   The PCI-GPIB card was working fine previous to this point, but now Windows insists the card is a network controller (not a GPIB controller) and needs a new driver loaded.  Here's the SW versions that are installed when I install the 6503 board and boot up:

Win XP, SP2; LabWindows/CVI 8.5.0, MAX 4.3.0.49152, NI-488.2 2.52, NI-DAQmx 8.6.1f0, NI-VISA 4.2

I know about the problems with NI-DAQmx 8.6.0f12 so I didn't load it when I loaded LabWindows/CVI (my CVI had the Nov. 2007 Driver CDs that contained NI-DAQmx 8.6.0f12).  Here's the order I loaded everything:

1. NI-488.2 SW then the PCI-GPIB card.  Driver loads OK and MAX sees the card.
2.LabWindows/CVI, but uncheck the NI-DAQmx when loading from the driver CDs.
3. NI-DAQmx 8.6.1f0 (downloaded from NI site)
(At this point the GPIB SW still works fine with LabWindows)
4. Install PCI-6503 card; on first bootup Windows wants to load a driver for the new "network controller".  Device Manager doesn't show the PCI-GPIB anymore either.  I can't find any way to convince Windows that the card isn't a network controller.

I can load the driver for the PCI-6503 if I skip over (Cancel) loading a driver for the "network controller".  However, after the 6503 driver loads the PC is immediately re-booted (indicating other problems exist).

Any help would be appreciated,
Ed Perkins

Thanks for the reply.  The problem turned out to be my motherboard.  It has 8 PCI slots divided into two groups of four.  One group of slots worked fine, the other group  had all the problems.  I was fortunate to have a second identical computer to reload all the software and hardware - no problems.
